El Lissitzky attempted to show architecture through art. He wanted to express his desires for abstract design using 3 dimensions and began doing this on 2 dimensional landscapes. It was his suprematist style where he developed a series of geometric paintings that were Picasso-like to the senses. He is quoted as saying his Proun series was:
“The station where one changes from painting to architecture.”
